Through their contributions in different areas of knowledge they generate a positive impact on their environment.

La Salle University is a proud seedbed of Profesionales con Valor who exalt the name of Mexico with positive impact projects that transcend borders. To mention just a few examples, our lasallians have developed projects to guarantee the health of priority groups, technologies that contribute to reducing environmental impact and even to bring medical care from the earth to space. This is the story of three Mexicans with an impact abroad.

Effective health services within the reach of all

In his position as Chief of Population Health of the Northeast Georgia Health System, Antonio Ríos, a Medicine graduate from La Salle University, seeks to establish a more accessible and effective medical service in the country with the most expensive health system in the world.

The strategy he leads is based on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Triple Aim, which consists of: improving the patient care experience (including quality and satisfaction); improving the health of the population; and reducing the per capita cost of medical care.

Sustainable medical apparel

Tamara Chayo Romo, CEO and founder of MEDU Protection, developed sustainable protective apparel for medical personnel. This technology allows the gowns to be reusable and one gown replaces 450 disposable ones. As of five months ago, according to Expansión magazine, this product had saved more than 100 tons of waste by being placed in 35 hospitals in Mexico and 15 in the United States.

Chayo decided to venture into the world of medical materials to help and protect doctors who were on the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic, but her initiative was not only based on a product that would work properly, she also wanted it to be sustainable.

Medicine in space

In June, Fernando De La Peña Llaca, a graduate of the then School of Engineering (now the Faculty of Engineering), received the annual Best Innovation Award from the director of NASA Johnson Space Center for bringing holographic teleportation technology to medicine in space.

Holographic teleportation is the real-time, 360-degree holographic representation of any person or place. It enables, for example, an engineer to simulate a walk through a space station or a doctor to appear in a patient’s home.

The Profesional con Valor is also involved in the colonization of the Moon through Artemis, an international space program supported by half a dozen space agencies, including AEXA.

It is through the commitment assumed by the Profesionales con Valor in the different areas where they work in, that La Salle University is present in society.
